Guiding Question(s) for the Lesson: What were some of the wants and needs from the First Thanksgiving?
Standards: K.G.2.2 Explain ways people use environmental resources to meet basic needs and wants (shelter, food, clothing).
Objectives: I will be able to tell wants and needs of the First Thanksgiving, coming from the Wampanoag’s point of view.

Activities:
· Start off the lesson with a class discussion. Ask the class what they know about the first Thanksgiving (K). Record responses on white board in the form of a KWL chart.
· Ask students what they would like to learn about the First Thanksgiving/Harvest Celebration and record in the KWL chart (W).
· Show the You are the Historian: Investigating the First Thanksgiving interactive website Fact or Myth section. Ask the class if any of their ideas about the first Thanksgiving/Harvest Celebration have changed after looking at the website. A misconception is something that you thought was true, but were actually mistaken. Did anyone have any misconceptions after learning from the website? Record what students learned (L).
· Show the You are the Historian: Investigating the First Thanksgiving interactive website. Show The Wampanoag section to show the First Thanksgiving/Harvest Celebration from their perspective.
· Have the class choose which items shown are needs and which items shown are wants. Record responses on the white board under separate headings: wants and needs of the Wampanoag People.
Assessment Plan: The teacher will use the information from the KWL chart and the wants and needs chart of the Wampanoag People to assess if the students understand the material.
